A few basic tricks of the trade could make a big difference in how much money you get for your used item – that have nothing to do with the item itself – but instead on how and where you list it for sale. This article is all about online sales.
A heavy and hard to pack basketball hoop, large piece of furniture is ideal on Facebook marketplace where a local can pick it up, while your name brand shoes may sell for a higher price on Poshmark, rather than bidding sites like e-bay and craigslist.
First impressions are everything – especially when there is money involved. If you are looking for a serious relationship, you wouldn’t slap together a sketchy dating profile of yourself with bad photos and little details right? Listing items for sale online takes a little thought. You have to put your best assets out there and really help them shine.
Great photos are key! 75% of online shoppers said they rely on product photos when deciding on a potential purpose. Include several high-quality photos of the item from different angles, taken in natural light with the light source directly on the item (not behind), filter free and in an area that is clean and clutter free.
Many online buyers reported passing on purchasing an item because the description is too vague.
The more details, the better, as long as they are relevant. Short, clear details that ACCURATELY describe the condition, age, size (measurements go a long way), material content etc. can make a big difference.
The one major downside to selling online is that most online shopping platforms will charge you a fee for using their service. In my experience, it’s worth it.
While you may earn 100 percent of what you get on Facebook Marketplace or Instagram (unless you use PayPal which can sometimes charge you a fee), Etsy charges 20 cents for each item listed, Depop charges a 10% fee for each item you sell, Poshmark charges $2.95 or 20% on any item over $15 dollars, and Offer-up charges a minimum of a $1.99, or 12.9% of the sale price.
Pick your fee poison, but don’t get discouraged! Once you get comfortable and make your first sale, the effort is worth it!

Time to cash in on those unwanted clothing items hanging in your closet! Instead of just donating them, why not try to make a little something back on the purchase price? Try Poshmark! Poshmark is an extremely popular and ever-growing free app that helps users sell unwanted clothing. As a TV News anchor, I’m always buying clothing, trying to keep up with the latest trends and refreshing my wardrobe.
I began using Poshmark in 2016 to get rid of some of my clothing I no longer wore, hoping I could make a little extra cash. Little did I know then, “poshing” would not only help me sell my unwanted clothing and find great deals on new pieces, but it also gave me the start-up capital to open my own business! That’s right! Couture Unicorn was created thanks in part to money I made through selling clothing on Poshmark!
Poshmark proved to be a great way to make money and was a good ‘test-drive’ in the retail industry. Couture Unicorn now has more than 130,000 followers on Poshmark and continues to grow. I’ve learned a lot of great tips and tricks along my journey that I love to share.
New to Poshmark? Join me for a ‘Posh N Sip’ on Facebook Live Rooms Sept. 12th at 10 a.m.

Pro Tips:
Details to include
This is THE most important action you can take to quickly sell items in your Poshmark closet. When you share your items to your newsfeed, other sellers or to Posh Parties, your items will list higher in search categories. This means more opportunities for buyers to find your item. Plus – buyers are less likely to buy from a closet that hasn’t been updated in a while.

Pantone Color Institute has already picked out Spring/Summer 2020 color trends and describe them as “friendly and relatable” in a way that conveys a sense of ease. “From inky blues and bio-luminous neons, to summer browns and seaweed greens, colors for Spring/Summer 2020 display depth and complexity.”
Read about 2020's color of the year.
From a bold fiery red, to the classic blue color of the year, Couture Unicorn is sharing the six biggest color trends you’ll see plastered all over insta in the coming seasons.
Flame Scarlet
Everyone loves a good red, right? From your favorite fiery lip color to the standout red nails and matching heels- this is the year to go bold.
This “here-I-am, pay-attention-to-me” shade is more indicative of the women’s movement,” said Pantone Color Institute’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman. “Obviously, red always gives that voice to women.”
A new year is the time for a refresh! Instead of making new year’s resolutions, many are opting to choose a word to inspire their goals in 2020. In the fashion world, it’s all about color. If color dictates the feel of the upcoming decade, fashion is choosing the word "tranquility". The start of new decade will begin splashed with a calm, cool confidence. The Pantone color of the year is Classic Blue.
What’s Pantone you ask? The Pantone Color Institute is the business unit within Pantone that highlights the top seasonal runway colors, selects the Pantone Color of the Year, forecasts global color trends, and advises companies on color for product and brand visual identity. Through seasonal trend forecasts, color psychology, and color consulting, the Pantone Color Institute partners with global brands to effectively leverage the power, psychology, and emotion of color in their design strategy.
In choosing 19-4052 Classic Blue, Pantone says “Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”
Pantone says the timeless blue hue is elegant in it’s simplicity and suggestive of the sky at dusk. Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge and a reflective moment. Sounds great, right?
How the fashion world will interpret and thread this color in upcoming fashion designs is yet to be seen, but the color choice seems to foretell a theme of timeless and resilient trends that could marry comfort with structure.
